With the Reverend Horton Heat
Winter 2001

Thanks to Joe Gallo for the photos!!

On our tour with the Reverend Horton Heat, I learned a twin guitar part to the Rev's song "The Millionaire." Getting to play it with them every night was a real blast. By the end of the tour we were doing a couple songs with them with everybody sitting in, a "monster jam" if you please...

On the last night of the tour in Birmingham, we took this shot of everybody: the Reverend Horton Heat, the Frantic Flattops, and the Ecco-Fonic boys. We had a blast on this tour!

The stars were out at our show in Nashville. Here I am with Bob Moore, the most legendary studio bass player of them all. Bob played bass on probably 95% of the hit records out of Nashville in the '50s and '60s, including almost all the Nashville sessions of Patsy Cline, Roy Orbison, and Elvis, not to mention such rockabilly classics as the Johnny Burnette Rock & Roll Trio and countless others! He and his wife Kittra are super nice folks, too! We're not worthy!!!

When I said the stars came out in Nashville, I wasn't lying! I was thrilled because I finally got to meet Rose Lee Maphis, Joe Maphis's widow and ex-singing partner; and Jody Maphis, Joe Maphis's son!!! Wow, did I feel intimidated playing in front of these two -- but what super-nice folks they were!

During the day in Nashville, I took some time to go see some celebrity graves. I visited Joe Maphis, the Carter Family, Luther Perkins, Lefty Frizzell, Stringbean, Cowboy Copas, and Hawkshaw Hawkins. But perhaps the most touching of all was the beloved hillbilly comedian "Cousin Jody." WOW.

When we hit New York, who showed up but Little Steven of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band... and current Rolling Stone cover boy as an actor on the hit TV series The Sopranos. Wow, it was cool to meet the world's #1 bald-headed rocker! He was a cool guy, too! Have to give him props!
