![]() NEWSFLASH! Deke joins the KID ROCK CRUISE for a star-studded journey from New Orleans to Cozumel! After seeing Deke and the Ecco-Fonics at the DVD release party for The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia last year, Kid Rock personally invited Deke to perform on his annual cruise party ship! Deke, along with Chris "Sugarballs" Sprague and the Modern Sounds, will be joining Kid Rock, Reverend Run, Gretchen Wilson, Carlos Mencia, and a host of other stars for a wild four-day cruise on the Gulf of Mexico! Unfortunately, Deke had to cancel dates in Seattle, Portland, and Medford, Oregon, to do the cruise. These dates will be rescheduled for later this year. The tour with Deke and the Modern Sounds will continue April 13 at the Hopmonk Tavern in Sebastopol, CA, and through the Redwood Bar in downtown Los Angeles on April 17. As Deke puts it: "If I was reading a fictional biography of a rockabilly musician and there was a chapter where Kid Rock invited the main character on a cruise with rap and metal acts, that would be completely unbelievable! Of course, truth is sometimes stranger than fiction!" |

Deke Dickerson's soundtrack composed for The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West VirginiaIMDb says: "Shoot-outs, robberies, gas-huffing, drug dealing, pill popping, murders, and tap dancing: What do these all have in common? These are just a few of the parts of being a member of the Wild and Wonderful White Family. The legendary family is as known for their wild, excessive criminal ways as they are for their famous mountain dancing members, including Jesco White, the star of the cult classic documentary Dancing Outlaw. Exploring both the comic and tragic sides of life on the other side of the law, this stylish, fast-paced family portrait exposes the powerful forces of corruption, poverty, and West Virginia's environmentally and culturally devastating coal mining culture that helped shape the White family, a dying breed of outlaws preserving a dying form of dance. |

"KNOXVILLE BOOGIE" by Deke Dickerson used in new JACKASS 3-D movie
When the new Jackass 3-D movie opens on October 15, moviegoers will be
treated to new highs (or lows) in gross-out humor and stunts. Somewhere
amid the rubble, Deke's hillbilly classic "Knoxville Boogie" will be
playing in the background. Go see the movie at your own risk, but there
are some great tunes playing in the film, including the Blasters' "I'm
Shakin'" and Roger Miller's "You Can't Roller Skate in a Buffalo Herd."
Thank you, Johnny Knoxville!

The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West VirginiaJune 27, 2009, was the Los Angeles premiere of the new documentary film, The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia. Deke did the film score for the movie (23 compositions in all). Johnny Knoxville of Jackass fame was the executive producer, and the film was directed by Julien Nitzberg. The premiere event was part of the Los Angeles Film Festival and took place at the majestic Crest Theater in Westwood. During the red-carpet ceremonies Deke and his bluegrass trio, featuring Mitch Polzak on banjo and Kevin Stewart on bass, performed while celebrities including Johnny Knoxville and John C. Reilly (of Walk Hard and Stepbrothers fame) were interviewed. When Jesco White and his sister Mamie White arrived, Deke and the boys crashed the red carpet and an impromptu mountain dancing session broke out, with paparazzi camera flashes going off like crazy while Jesco danced and Deke's band played, with Johnny Knoxville laughing maniacally in the background. YouTube video footage below. After the screening, Jesco danced on the stage while the band played some more. After a short Q&A with the director, the film crew, Jesco, and Deke went to a local bar, where even more hillbilly mayhem transpired until the bar closed. A large throng gathered outside on the sidewalk, buzzing about the movie and the night's events. Check out a review of the evening's craziness from Quiet Earth: "I could barely understand their thick Appalachian accents, but I have to tell you, I love these people. A beautiful toxic tonic to the fake drivel that make up the Kardashians. An inspiration to anarchists everywhere, and also to people who think that Ozzy Osbourne turned into a giant pansy."
