NEWS FLASH!

After much negotiation and nail-biting, we can finally proudly announce the headliner of the 2010 Guitar Geek Festival, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee

DUANE EDDY!

We've been trying to get Duane Eddy for years, and now it's finally happening! The original king of "twangy" guitar will be LIVE in person at the Guitar Geek Festival performing his signature hit records "Peter Gunn," "Rebel Rouser," "40 Miles Of Bad Road," "Ramrod," and many more!

Duane Eddy is a legendary guitar hero, and perhaps the most successful instrumentalist in rock and roll history. He has charted 15 top-40 singles and has sold more than 100 million records worldwide.

John Fogerty declared, "Duane Eddy was the front guy, the first rock and roll guitar god." Paul McCartney recruited Eddy to play on his "Rockestra Theme" in 1987, and George Harrison played on Duane's comeback album of the same year. Duane Eddy was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. We are proud to have him and his twangy guitar headline this year's festival.

ALSO APPEARING...

GEORGE TOMSCO (of the Fireballs) with 3 Balls of Fire: The Men with Burning Guitars!

George was the lead guitarist for the influential band the Fireballs, who recorded such classic instrumentals as "Bulldog," "Torquay," "Fireball," and many others back in the 1950s and 1960s. He is also very well-known for his session guitar work on records by Buddy Holly and Arthur Alexander, and the number-one record "Sugar Shack" by Jimmy Gilmer and the Fireballs. He will be backed by "Burnin" Mike Vernon and 3 Balls of Fire . . . the men with the Burning Guitars!

DAVID "HONEYBOY" EDWARDS: The last original Delta blues guitarist!

Talk about a pedigree! David "Honeyboy" Edwards is blues royalty. Can you believe that a man still walks the earth who not only knew and played with Robert Johnson, but was actually present that night in 1938 when Johnson was poisoned by a jealous boyfriend in Mississippi? Honeyboy was there. How about a man who knew Charlie Patton, Son House, and Tommy Johnson? Honeyboy knew them all. Field recordings by Alan Lomax in 1942? Recorded for Sun and Chess Records? That's Honeyboy. The man who played the part of "old blues musician" in the recent megafilm Walk Hard? Once again, we're talking about David "Honeyboy" Edwards, the last of the original Delta blues guitarists. Honeyboy will be ably accompanied by Joel Paterson of the Modern Sounds.

DEKE DICKERSON: Tribute to Johnny Ramone and the Ramones (with special guests!)

Blasphemy, you say? Why do a tribute to a guitarist who insisted on never playing solos and openly despised virtuoso playing? Because Johnny Ramone, and the Ramones, influenced a generation of punk rockers from the Sex Pistols to Green Day. Even metal guys like Paul Gilbert claim Johnny Ramone's "buzz saw" style of playing influenced them. Beware the blast of noise that comes from a cheap Mosrite blaring through Marshall stacks--this will be a rocking assault for the ears. If you hate this kind of music, it will be a great time to go have dinner. If you love the Ramones this may be the highlight of your year!!! Special guest vocalist--to be announced once negotiations have been finalized. We'll cryptically say no more at this date.

JOEL PATERSON AND THE MODERN SOUNDS: America's best new band?

The West Coast debut of Joel Paterson and the Modern Sounds, direct from Chicago! Deke says "These guys are America's best new band," so you know there is some serious firepower involved! Joel Paterson is a head-turning killer guitarist who can play everything from rockabilly to blues, country, and jazz, not to mention pedal steel guitar and any other instrument you put in his hands. He used to play with Jimmy Sutton's Four Charms, Bloodshot artist Kelly Hogan, Devil in a Woodpile, and others. The Modern Sounds are rounded out by killer bassist Beau Sample (ex-Cave Catt Sammy frontman) and drummer extraordinaire Alex Hall. Do not miss these guys . . . They'll blow your mind!

CRAZY JOE TRITSCHLER: Enon, Ohio's pride and joy returns!

Last year there were many cries of "Where's Crazy Joe?" The King of Nerdabilly, the great young guitar talent, is back, blazing through a set of Crazy Joe classics and instrumentals you don't want to miss!

THE HISTORY OF THE STEEL GUITAR: A set of steel guitar through the turn of the century until now, with many famous steel guitar players on hand to make it interesting!

This informative and super-cool set will feature Jeremy "J.W." Wakefield, Dave "D.B." Berzansky, Pat Quilter, Chas Smith, and more, demonstrating the evolution of the steel guitar from its acoustic Hawaiian origins through the electric lap steel, the early non-pedal steel guitar, the classic pedal steel guitar, and even some wild futuristic versions of where the instrument is headed! An accompanying exhibition in the Geekfest guitar museum will include some very famous celebrity-owned pieces! Bring your camera!

BRIAN LONBECK AND ELAINE FRIZZELL: Dueling Doublenecks!

Fan favorite Brian Lonbeck, the Barn Burner of Bakersfield, will perform a very special set with fellow Mosrite doubleneck axe-slinger Elaine Frizzell of Nashville. You won't want to miss this set of blazing Joe Maphis and Merle Travis-style guitar!

ELECTRIC 12-STRING GUITAR NIGHTMARE: Bring your electric 12-string and join the nightmare!

Deke had a nightmare about what an orchestra of electric 12-string guitars would sound like. So, he figured, why not? Bring your electric 12-string and join the band. Don't worry, the nightmare will only last for one song, the classic "Mr. Tambourine Man" by the Byrds (in the key of D, for those who want to join in). There will be an official guitar tuner, not that it will make this any less of a tuning nightmare.

STEVE TROVATO AND CARL VERHEYEN: Monster pickers!

We've been hearing about both of these guys for a long time. Both are scary-good virtuoso players and the two of them together promise to be double trouble! They can play anything from country to jazz, and all points in between.

BREAKOUT SHOWCASE: BUDDY & SUZY DUGHI and MESHUGGA BEACH PARTY!

We're happy to announce two great bands for the opening breakout showcase set this year: Buddy and Suzy Dughi are no strangers to the Geekfest, having participated in the Doubleneck Trainwreck and the All-Mosrite Band. They have had such acts as the Hot Rod Trio and Suzy Q and her Bebop Boys, all featuring the twangy guitar of Buddy Dughi!

Meshugga Beach Party is the world's only all-Jewish surf band. These guys will tear it up with a Mosrite frenzy of orthodox kosher surf tunes, straight from the Bay Area. Even their female keyboard player has a beard!

DJ DAN MOSES!

DEKE'S GUITAR MUSEUM: Featuring several special exhibits this year, including a history of the steel guitar, the world's largest G. L. Stiles collection, an actual 1956 Bigsby electric guitar, and Joe Maphis's original 1954 Mosrite "octave neck" from his original doubleneck guitar. Plus hundreds of other wild and wooly, rare and vintage instruments!

RAFFLE: Enter a raffle to win Duane Eddy's Deep in the Heart of Twangsville box set courtesy Bear Family Records AND Buddy Holly's Not Fade Away box set (featuring George Tomsco's guitar work on Buddy's "Apartment Tapes") courtesy Hip-O Select and Universal Music Enterprises.
